Six Nations Minor Hockey was on hiatus for a couple of years during the pandemic.

Despite the fact no Six Nations clubs were iced during the previous two years, officials from the organization had reason to celebrate this season.

That’s because one of its teams, the boys Under 15 squad, ended up winning a provincial title.

The Six Nations Blackhawks captured the gold medal at the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Tier 2 tournament, which concluded April 2 in Barrie.

The Blackhawks were one of 12 teams that participated at the provincial tourney. And early on it did not appear the Six Nations entry would have much success at the event.

The Blackhawks lost both of their round-robin matches. But the squad then reeled off four consecutive victories, including a 3-2 triumph over the Essa Eagles in the championship final.

Six Nations advanced to the final thanks to a 3-1 victory over the Walkerton Capitals, the team that had edged the Blackhawks 4-3 in a round-robin match at the tourney.

This is believed to be the first time in more than a decade that a Six Nations squad won an OMHA championship.
