Summary

To maintain the integrity of the work artists do, the Indigenous Film Office is revising its original call.

In February 2018, the Indigenous Film Office issued an invite to all Indigenous artists to submit their design ideas for the office's official logo, with the selected artist receiving compensation for their work.

The intention of this call was to make participation accessible to all Indigenous artists, regardless of previous design work and experience.

Since the call, I have been informed by esteemed members of the design community that the conditions of the call as they are do not protect the integrity of an artists' labour and the design profession, and are contradictory to the No Spec policy supported by Canada's Professional Association for Design and other graphic design organizations.

In light of this and to maintain the integrity of the work artists do, The Indigenous Film Office is revising its original call. Indigenous artists are invited to submit their previous work for consideration and final designers/artists will be selected from applications received to design the Office's official logo.

Artists that have submitted their design ideas to date, as per the original call, will be contacted directly by the Office and will be compensated for their work.

Sincerely,

Jesse Wente, director of the newly-launched Indigenous Screen Office
