Edmonton's churches move forward on reconciliation

The Inner City Pastoral Ministry (ICPM) in Edmonton—made up of Anglican, United, Evangelical Lutheran and Roman Catholic churches—is looking for a part-timer who will provide support to the United Churches of the city to develop and participate in reconciliation initiatives.

The goal is to move forward on the Calls to Action in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report.

 The United Churches, along with people from other faith traditions and cultural backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples, is represented in a movement called Moving Forward with Reconciliation.

The role of the position, which begins Oct. 1, includes working with congregations to facilitate educational opportunities and resources, provide support for cultural learning and advocacy action, build bridges and relationships among and between Indigenous and church communities, support leaders for reconciliation, coordinate Blanket Exercises by collaborating with congregations and other community partners. 

The role requires a sensitivity to Indigenous issues and diversity, the ability to solve problems, conflicts and/or disputes, and have knowledge and understanding of United Church’s role in residential schools, and the impact on survivors and their descendants.
