Chair for Alberta Innovates
Alberta Innovates is an integral part of Alberta’s strategically aligned and integrated provincial research and innovation system. Innovation is key to economic growth and job creation and will be increasingly important to Alberta’s competitiveness in the global economy. Alberta Innovates, with a global innovation leader now in place as CEO, and the consolidation of four previous organizations complete, is energized to provide entrepreneurs, businesses and researchers with a single window to meet a range of needs – one innovation powerhouse. Alberta Innovates’ enables accelerated outcomes that matter to Albertans, including a more diversified economy, enhanced environmental performance, and a healthier population.
The vision is to be indisputably recognized as a leader – provincially, nationally, and internationally – in catalyzing research and innovation. The corporation is mandated to:
- Meet the research and innovation priorities of the Government in the areas of agriculture, forestry, energy, health, and environment; and to foster the development and growth of new and existing industries through research and innovation.
- Be outcomes-oriented, user-driven/responsive, collaborative, strategic, transparent, and accountable.
Seeking a new Chair
Alberta Innovates seeks vision, energy and world class credentials in their Chair. The Chair will actively support the Province’s efforts as a place where original thinking, entrepreneurship, and innovation is recognized and celebrated. The Chair is responsible for providing leadership to the Board to ensure effective governance of the Corporation, strategic oversight and strong relationships with the government and stakeholders. The Chair will be a skilled communicator, leader, and relationship builder with an extensive understanding of the innovation sector and the stature to effectively represent the organization.
Both significant and complex to undertake, this will be a challenging and exciting mission for the new Chair to help support the creation of a better future for Albertans, Canada, and the world.
