Board Member (Part-Time): Environmental Appeals Board
The Environmental Appeals Board hears appeals of certain regulatory decisions made by Alberta Environment and Parks under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, the Water Act, and the Climate Change and Emissions Management Act. The Board administers the appeal process and provides sound advice to the Minister of Environment and Parks.
Opportunities are available for part-time Board Members with a technical, scientific, or public policy background dealing with environmental issues. An ideal candidate would also have mediation training. The Board is seeking candidates with expertise in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water management, human health, public lands management, risk assessment and management, wildlife biology, aquatic biology, terrestrial biology, or environmental law. Board Members may also deal with appeals under the Public Lands Act.
Candidates will have a strong commitment to serving the people of Alberta, excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment, and an understanding of administrative proceedings. Familiarity with Alberta’s regulatory system is an asset. It is important that Board Members have a high standard of integrity and are impartial and free from bias. You will need to consider any potential conflicts of interests with the people that appear before the Board and identify any concerns in your application. Applications may be used for future vacancies.
The Board strongly encourages applications from women and individuals from other groups that are underrepresented on Alberta’s agencies, boards, and commissions. For more information about the Environmental Appeals Board, please visit http://www.eab.gov.ab.ca.
