3178 - Assistant Professor (probationary tenure-track appointment) (specialize in relationships between Canada's Indigenous Peoples and the environment and natural resources)

The School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES) and the College of Sustainability (CoS) together invite applications for a joint probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing 01 July 2018.

SRES provides a dynamic setting for creative, interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses societal challenges related to natural resources, the environment, and human development. We have a passion for making the world a much better place through the creation, application, and mobilization of knowledge that furthers social and ecological sustainability. SRES delivers two programs: a thesis-based Master of Environmental Studies (MES) and a course-based Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM). SRES faculty also teach in the undergraduate Bachelor of Management. Faculty also supervise PhD students through Dalhousie’s Interdisciplinary PhD program, and the School is developing its own new PhD program.

The College of Sustainability is internationally recognized for its innovative approach to interdisciplinary undergraduate education. The College offers an undergraduate Environment, Sustainability and Society program which students complete as a double major paired with one of seven Bachelors’ degree programs across five Dalhousie Faculties. The ESS program is offered in conjunction with over forty other subject areas.

We are seeking a colleague with interdisciplinary competences related to sustainability in the context of natural resources and the environment. The colleague will specialize in relationships between Canada's Indigenous Peoples and the environment and natural resources. Applicants should have competence in the evaluation of impacts of socio-political, biophysical and law/policy drivers on human-ecological communities.

Applicants must have a PhD, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and enthusiasm to teach in diverse settings (large and small undergraduate classes as well as graduate classes) related to the candidate’s areas of expertise. Interest and ability in community-engaged teaching and research scholarship are essential, as are ability and willingness to work constructively with colleagues and communities. Evidence or the promise of an ability to win research grants or contracts is important. The successful candidate will participate in the administrative management of the School and the College.

The School for Resource and Environmental Studies is part of the Faculty of Management, which has a unique commitment to interdisciplinary advancement of management knowledge and practice leading to transformational solutions for society. The successful candidate will thus have opportunities to work with like-minded colleagues in the Rowe School of Business, School of Public Administration, and School of Information Management.
